Lithium-Ion Battery Safety: Understanding the Risks and Best Practices

Join us for an informative session on one of today’s fastest-growing workplace and community safety concerns: lithium-ion battery safety.

As lithium-ion batteries become increasingly common in everything from smartphones and power tools to electric vehicles and energy storage systems, understanding the hazards associated with these batteries is more important than ever. This presentation will explore the causes of battery failures, fire and explosion risks, emergency response considerations, and practical strategies for safe handling, charging, storage, and disposal.

Our presenter, Jeff Romine, CSP, CPEA, brings more than four decades of experience in safety, risk management, fire protection, emergency preparedness, and business continuity. Jeff currently serves as the Director of Transportation for the Georgia Traffic Incident Enhancement (TIME) Task Force, where he leads statewide initiatives focused on roadway safety and incident management. Prior to that role, he spent over 20 years with Shaw Industries as Senior Corporate EHS Manager, overseeing environmental, health, and safety programs across more than 100 facilities.

A long-time member of ASSP and a frequent speaker at regional and national safety conferences, Jeff is recognized for translating complex safety challenges into practical lessons that organizations can apply immediately
